Julia Scholl: Der Tag, an dem Diana stirbt, 2023, series of 11, inkjet print, different sizes, hanging: 240 x 290 cm
The story of a day is conceived in eleven photographs, in various sizes and partly enlarged from the family archive, partly added later. Der Tag, an dem Diana stirbt (The Day Diana Dies) is the photographic reconstruction of a memory for which no visual evidence exists. This work explores the constant fluidity of our understanding of the past, both on a personal and societal level, and alludes to communal memory. Simultaneously, it is an exploration of the question of where fiction begins in our narratives, what ambiguity and an impossibility of verification mean and the realization that space for new narratives is created in the gaps of histories.
